Someone registered 325,772 .xyz domains in the last 48 hours. 96% of them are exactly 13 char: technicmemory.xyz academicclimb.xyz bubbleteacher.xyz drivecommerce.xyz One account. 3% of the entire .xyz zone, generated by a script and parked for resale.
Everyone's watching .si. 7,569 registrations in the last 24 hours, and we all know why. Nobody's watching .baby. It took 15,808 domains between Sep 22 and Oct 12 — a quarter of the entire TLD. 7,435 of them in the last three days.
.com zone file from 11-OCT was identical to 10-OCT: 5,006,190,137 bytes, identical SOA serial. Diff: 0 new, 0 deleted, 0 NS changes across 167,425,489 domains - our first ever zero. 12-OCT came through fresh: 253,872 new, 231,803 deleted. Two days in one.
@fulcrumtheory @MichaelCyger @Namecheap No. And you tie up the domain with transfer locks, making it effectively unsellable while you spend six months playing registrar ping-pong to save two theoretical dollars.
Every morning I download the entire .com zone of ~167 million domains and compare it to yesterday's. It normally changes by ~280,000 domains a day. It has never changed by fewer than 200,000. Today: zero. The file I was served was yesterday's, with a fresh timestamp on it.
@VERISIGN is raising the .com wholesale price from $10.46 to $11.17 on 1 November for new registrations, renewals and transfers alike. 71 cents. Nobody renewing one domain will notice. 71 cents × the 167,425,489 .com domains in today's zone = $118.9 million.
The kit was well built. It pulled real images and styling straight from Louis Vuitton's own site, so it looked legit. Its code also had leftovers referencing Hays and Nike. Same toolkit, different logo: if you hire under a known name, expect fakes wearing your brand.
Yesterday (Oct 7) a fake Louis Vuitton careers site went from registered to phishing inboxes in 9 hours. After our report, @Cloudflare blocked it the same day. @LouisVuitton the domain, louisvuittonemployment[.]com, is still registered. Only your legal team can take it back.
DomainWatch is live. We watch 260M+ domains across 1,100+ TLDs for the ones pretending to be someone else. First case study drops shortly.
