BASE BATCHES 004 TEAM: LEDiG (@LEDiG_Tech) is building onchain FX hedging and stablecoin–fiat liquidity infrastructure on Base. Stablecoin liquidity across 32 countries, focused on corridors in Africa and other emerging markets.
Stablecoins are scaling quickly, but every new rail exposes the infrastructure around it. If they became the default cross-border rail tomorrow, where do you think the first real bottleneck would show up? #Stablecoins #CrossBorderPayments #FX #PaymentsInfrastructure #InstitutionalFinance
11) The larger takeaway for us is that stablecoin adoption is only one layer of the opportunity in emerging markets. The harder infrastructure problems increasingly sit around the stablecoin itself. Liquidity. FX. Local settlement. Treasury. Risk management. That is what turns an asset that can move globally into financial infrastructure institutions can actually use. #Stablecoins #EmergingMarkets #FX #PaymentsInfrastructure #InstitutionalFinance
10) This is where the stablecoin conversation becomes bigger than payments. If more assets, obligations and contracts move onchain, institutions will still need: liquidity to enter and exit positions, FX between currencies, local settlement, treasury infrastructure, and risk management around future exposures.
1) The stablecoin transfer may be becoming the easiest part of the transaction. Coinbase Institute’s latest research on stablecoins in emerging markets highlights something we think is increasingly important: Moving value onchain is only one layer of the financial infrastructure businesses actually need. 🧵
10) That is the broader idea behind Ledig Options. Emerging-market FX volatility is not going away. The goal is to make that exposure something businesses and institutions can price, hedge and manage, rather than simply absorb. Ledig Options is currently moving closer to our launch on @base #FXHedging #EmergingMarkets #InstitutionalFinance #OnchainFinance #Stablecoins
9) Better hedging infrastructure does not make an emerging market risk-free. It does not remove credit risk, political risk, business risk or execution risk. It addresses something narrower: the possibility that a currency move overwhelms the economics of an otherwise sound business, payment flow, project or investment. If that exposure can be isolated, priced and hedged, institutions can make clearer decisions about the underlying opportunity. That can matter for trade, payments, corporate expansion, treasury management and ultimately capital allocation.
When FX breaks otherwise good economics A thread on why currency risk can undermine otherwise sound businesses, projects and investments in emerging markets, and why we’re building Ledig Options around American-style options👇
