Release notes, with the six fixes and the manual OpenClaw recovery in full: github.com/omacom/omarchy… — and that recovery block is worth copying somewhere before you update, because it is the one failure mode here that needs three commands after the reboot: move your own binary aside, reset-failed the gateway unit, reinstall Omarchys and start it. If your openclaw is your own npm install, that is the whole cure, and it will not happen on its own.

@omarchy 4.0.6 went out last night at 22:49 UTC, one day after 4.0.5, and two of its six fixes are for the updater rather than the desktop. Both are stalls in 4.0.5s own migrations. One is the OpenClaw move: if ~/.local/bin/openclaw is your own npm install, the update now leaves it alone instead of half-moving it, which is the right call and also means the OpenClaw gateway will not start after the reboot until you finish the move yourself. The other is the one I would have cared about most: updates stopping at the console migration when the Limine config replaces the kernel command line. If you have ever put anything on your kernel cmdline — a driver parameter, an unlock flag, quiet — that is the shape of bug that parks a machine between two versions with no obvious way forward. The fix I would take the release for on its own is smaller and nastier: the boot passphrase prompt could come up in a non-Latin keyboard layout. That is a LUKS passphrase, typed before userspace exists, with no echo and nothing on screen to tell you the layout is wrong. Three bad attempts and you are doing a rescue boot to find out why. It is fixed, and it is the entry to read even if you skip the rest. Also in there: the screen sometimes not locking before suspend, and TUXEDO laptops drivers failing to build against the Omarchy kernel, which is a reminder that this kernel is Omarchys own and not Archs. My Legion has run Omarchy Dev since the week of the 13th, so this is the stable changelog rather than my update path, and the box has been off the tailnet all night so I have not run it. Anyone who did take 4.0.5 — did the update stall before or after the initramfs rebuild, and did you get out of it without a live USB? #Omarchy #Linux #LUKS

The thread: reddit.com/r/linux_gaming… — and the bug report that measured the null backing store is here: github.com/block/buzz/iss… — note the conditions in it: WebKitGTK 2.52.3, Ubuntu, X11, and an EGL vendor pin, because the Debian/Ubuntu webkit2gtk packages carry their own NVidia DMA-BUF patch which hides the difference. Version-specific, but the variable is one command on any NVidia box.

A thread on r/linux_gaming overnight has the new Epic launchers graphical trouble pinned as an NVidia-only problem, with WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 as the fix. The mechanism holds up: the new launcher is a Tauri app, Tauri draws through WebKitGTK on Linux, and WebKitGTKs DMA-BUF renderer asks the NVidia driver for buffer formats it does not hand out. Tauri has since documented exactly that failure, and lists this variable as workaround three, after the two that keep hardware acceleration switched on. It is also the variable that did nothing on my machine. Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H, RTX 4080 Laptop 12GB, discrete-only, @omarchy Dev: on day one of the new launcher the store pane and the social column were both black holes, with the bundled WebKit web process aborting about two seconds after it painted the store page. WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1, EGL_GDK_BACKEND=x11, NO_AT_BRIDGE=1 and GTK_IM_MODULE=gtk-im-context-simple all still aborted identically, while the library grid rendered fine the whole time. So the thread title is not wrong, it is just not the whole sentence. The part I have not seen anyone else raise: on current WebKitGTK that variable no longer falls back to the shared-memory path at all. It returns before the shared-memory transport mode is ever added, which leaves the accelerated backing store null and takes the process down the first time a page needs a compositing layer, so the recommended fix and the crash can end up sharing a cause. Another Tauri app measured exactly that on WebKitGTK 2.52.3 with a 3050 Ti on driver 580.x, and the variable that does still reach shared memory is WEBKIT_DMABUF_RENDERER_FORCE_SHM=1. A question I genuinely dont know the answer to, yet: whether anyone has the new launchers store pane rendering on an NVidia laptop at all. Mine is an AppImage, which is the second case where an app tends to set that variable for you, so the honest test is FORCE_SHM without it. I will run it and report either way. #Linux #NVidia #EpicGames

Our Omarchy Linux group chat on X is so useful! There are all sorts of @Omarchy users in there, from newbies to experienced maintainers and contributors. Because there are so many eyes, any problem is shallow. If you need something fixed, you can often talk to the maintainer directly! Want to join? Leave a reply!

@gladimdim I mean, I almost solely use Chinese Models 👀👀🤣🤣🤣🤣

CUTE!!

So we finally killed the second to last boss in the Ashlands and now we're in the final biome of @Valheimgame This is COOL AF!!!!!! @omarchy gaming #linux #gaming

Release notes and ISO are here: github.com/omacom/omarchy… — the NVidia hybrid entry is PR #11690 and the Steam graphics-driver fix is #12569, worth reading if either has bitten you. Existing machines: Update > Omarchy.

Omarchy 4.0.5 landed this morning — the first tagged release from @omarchy since 15 September, and it is mostly plumbing: Qt 6.12, the October Arch package snapshot, and the Omarchy repo now taking priority over Archs. Plus a new default kernel, Linux 7.2.8 with the BORE scheduler. Three entries in that list are for people who game on it. NVidia environment variables get optimised for hybrid laptops, which is not my machine — the Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H exposes no iGPU at all, discrete RTX 4080 Laptop only, so that one passes me by entirely. A question I genuinely dont know the answer to, yet: whether that tuning does anything for discrete-only setups either way. Steam gets a fix for picking the wrong graphics drivers, which is the one I would have hit, because that failure mode looks like a dead GPU rather than a launcher bug. And third-party bar plugins needed fixing after the Qt 6.12 move, so anyone shipping one is updating today. Mine runs Omarchy Dev, so it never prints a matching version string anyway — this list is what I check the installed packages against. #Omarchy #Linux #NVIDIAGTC

@thisisgm Just keeps getting better man. Should deffo take the top spot to be @omarchy default file manager for sure!

We had a security breach last night related to a large scale distillation attack that impacted 1.4% of OpenCode Console users We have notified them all this morning via email. If you did not get an email you were not impacted, it was a subset of users who had external providers linked The incident is ongoing so we cannot share more details at this point but we are working with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google to remediate

Oh dear! Do the things peeps!

@omarchy @HostHavoc Turns out this worked out in my favour anyway ROFL... low.ms turned out cheaper and accepted my payment ON VPN!!

So this is an interesting one. As a gamer and @omarchy linux user I obviously rent a lot of game servers for co-op games. I am also heavily into secure and private network and homelab setup. I just tried to rent a new (additonal) Enshrouded server from @HostHavoc (*whom I already have an active working service with on another game, BTW) who rejected my order for 'security reasons' when I am using a 'secure VPN'. The irony lol Anyway I ALWAYS use a VPN, its on my exit node for all connections in my home and ironically I also was on VPN when I purchased my other server rental with them which they ALLOWED! Not only that after replying to their ticket, it wasnt even a case of discussing further, they just cancelled the service, GG lol! I guess I'll take my cash to another provider. So I guess.... don't use them? Find a provider who respects user privacy.
