@CNBC The scale behind the backyard question: US data centres used about 180 terawatt-hours of electricity in 2024, nearly 45% of all data-centre power used worldwide, per the International Energy Agency's Energy and AI report (2025). The 2024 figures are estimates.
@anandmahindra The deeptech wave sits on a far wider base than a decade ago. India had 502 government-recognised startups in 2016 and more than 247,000 by 12 August 2026, nearly 500 times as many, per DPIIT data from the Press Information Bureau. Recognised does not always mean active.
Answer: more. The US had 152.1 GW, India 48.2 GW and Pakistan 1.8 GW, 202.1 GW combined.
China alone had about 46% of the world's 1,133.1 GW. (Installed capacity, 2024.)

China had 521.7 GW of wind power capacity installed in 2024. Was that more or less than the US, India and Pakistan combined?

@EconomicTimes Fire is a big share of the world's tree loss. Fires caused 42% of the 25.5 million hectares of tree cover lost worldwide in 2025. Indonesia lost 1.16 million hectares from all causes, India 118,595. Source: Hansen/UMD/Google/USGS/NASA, accessed through Global Forest Watch.
@stats_feed The twist is who holds it. Foreign holders had 9.33 trillion dollars of US Treasury securities at the end of August 2026, with Japan No. 1 at 1,068.3 billion dollars and India at 219.7 billion dollars, by custody location, per US Treasury TIC data.
@FT The other big urban story is still mostly rural. An estimated 35.7% of India's people lived in urban areas in 2025, against 57.8% worldwide, per World Bank data based on UN World Urbanization Prospects estimates. National definitions of urban differ.
@business The fuel in those stockpiles makes most of India's power. Coal generated an estimated 70.9% of India's electricity in 2025, roughly seven of every ten units, against 33.2% worldwide, per Ember (provisional).
Software developers are projected to add 174,700 US jobs from 2025 to 2035, No. 6 of 831 detailed occupations by jobs added. Their median pay was 135,980 dollars a year in May 2025.

@business Update: on the latest World Bank release (FAO FRA 2025), Brazil's net forest loss in 1990-2023 is 1,258,445 sq km, not 959,192. It is still No. 1 of 177, and still larger than China's 667,904 gain.

@business Why a record low matters: since 1990 Brazil has had the world's largest net forest loss, 959,192 sq km by 2023, No. 1 of 177 countries and more than China gained over the same years, per World Bank (FAO) estimates.
Forest shares of land also moved: India's rose 2.90 percentage points, not 3.03, to 24.4% in 2023. The US reached 33.8% and China 23.9%. Pakistan's fell from 4.5% to 4.1%, not 6.5% to 4.7%. (2/2)

Update: on the latest World Bank release (FAO FRA 2025), India gained 86,290 sq km of forest in 1990-2023, not 90,212, and is still No. 2 of 177. China is No. 1 (667,904), Canada No. 3, the US No. 4. (1/2)
India added 90,212 sq km of forest area from 1990 to 2023, the No. 2 gain among 177 countries. That raised the share of India's land that is forest by 3.03 percentage points. (1/6)
@ntvkenya In one big forest, losses are shrinking. Clear-cut deforestation in Brazil's Legal Amazon was an estimated 3,335 square kilometres in the year to July 2026 (provisional), the lowest since at least 1988 and 41.8% below the year before, per Brazil's INPE (PRODES).
@AFP The yardstick matters. Since 1 February 2026, NOAA has made official El Niño calls on a relative index (RONI), not the old ONI. On RONI, July-September 2026 was +1.7°C (provisional), a 4th straight season at +0.5°C or more, one short of the five an official episode needs.

Chrome's hold on India's web is tighter than in the US or worldwide: 88.7% of page views in September 2026 (may be revised), against 53.9% in the US and 66.5% worldwide. (1/2)
In September 2016, UC Browser was India's most used web browser, with 41.8% of page views. What share does it have in September 2026?
Answer in the first reply 👇 (guess before you peek)
@Indiametdept The ENSO paper lands as NOAA's Climate Prediction Center gives an 83% chance that Oct-Dec 2026 reaches a three-month RONI of +2.5°C or more, stronger than any El Niño since at least 1950 (provisional forecast, 8 October 2026).
@Reuters El Niño is no rare shock for farmers and food markets: 27 of the 76 years from 1950 to 2025 were El Niño years, over one in three, by our count of NOAA's official index. The latest reading: Niño-3.4 was 2.1°C above average in NOAA's 8 October 2026 update (provisional).

Answer: the US. US-based organisations released 64 notable models in 2025 and China-based ones 35.
Between them, they were behind 97 of the 107 worldwide, leaving 10 for the rest of the world. Two models had both US and China organisations and count for each. (2/3)
