IBM JUST TOLD WALL STREET IT’S READY TO SCALE QUANTUM. HERE’S EVERYTHING THEY SAID $IBM reported earnings today, and Arvind Krishna spent part of the call on quantum. The biggest line was workloads that cost about $100 to run on IBM “could cost up to $10 million on slower competitive modalities.” IBM signed 16 enterprise quantum engagements this year, including AT&T and General Motors, across automotive, aerospace, telecom, finance and manufacturing. Its newest processor, Nighthawk R2, runs 7,500 gates, executes 100,000 circuits per second, and is up to 19x faster than the last generation. IBM connected its first modular cryogenic systems, the step toward linking machines into one big computer, and is building a 300,000-square-foot quantum manufacturing facility in Poughkeepsie. It’s in the final stage of DARPA’s quantum benchmarking program, and it closed a $1 billion Commerce Department award to manufacture quantum chips.
