@hhpapazian No strict rule, but I usually do a bit of research and try to find 3–4 resources to start a new category.

@hhpapazian @typofonderie Thanks! It’s my project, but it’s also everyone’s project. All contributions are welcome, including suggesting new categories or specific links and resources.

@hhpapazian Great idea. Do you know any foundries that offer them? I saw an ad for one at @typofonderie today, but I can’t recall any others.

Neat little easter egg from @googlefonts. It also works with a few others like Open Sans and Roboto.

Can't find this documented anywhere but if you google the font merriweather the page changes to use it

@FaceType @Monotype @MyFonts I often wonder how many foundries have had experiences as bad as mine 🫠

@TiroTypeworks Would the samples be pulled into your font editor? I’ve thought about building a Glyphs plugin with a UI for extracting text samples from web pages.

@yanone @moyogo @simoncozens @davelab6 @rosettatype No worries! I also get tired of trying to follow conversations on here, with the way threads get forked and forked again. I'll get in touch via email or Github issues if I have any questions for you, after I've worked on this a bit more.

Building a @glyphsapp plugin that lists languages your font doesn’t support yet. Add missing glyphs for any language in a click!

@moyogo @simoncozens @davelab6 @rosettatype @yanone Ok, I just ran shaperglot on a pan-African font that has both Eng forms. It passes Sami but fails African langs. So I went to file an issue but found you've already made one (github.com/googlefonts/sh…).

@moyogo @simoncozens @davelab6 @rosettatype @yanone Yes, a pan-African font shouldn’t fail if there are no Eng subs, but if it happens to contain all codepoints for Sami, then a warning should appear to remind the designer to localize.

@simoncozens @davelab6 @rosettatype @yanone I like your approach with “providers” in Shaperglot. I have some ideas about dealing with unencoded glyphs in checking for language support, but you may have already addressed them, so I’ll get more familiar with it before I post an issue.

@mrkvlmrvc @glyphsapp @yanone Yes, I think Script + Region sets like this are a very useful approach. Type designers/foundries are everywhere, and should have standard glyphsets to support languages in their own part of the world. @yanone thoughts? Latin North America, Latin Oceania, etc.

@mrkvlmrvc @glyphsapp @yanone It would also make it easy for the user to pull the latest versions of open-source glyphsets that occasionally change over time.

@mrkvlmrvc @glyphsapp @yanone Great idea. It would be easy to extend this to show standard glyphsets in a similar UI, so you can easily add GF/Koeberlin/Adobe/ISO/etc glyphsets to your project.

@hernandezrcris @glyphsapp Agreed, I’ve been thinking about this, and a primary goal for this tool is to make it easier to find and support underserved languages. It will likely be sorted by language name, until you click a column header. Any other columns you would want to see added?
