Let's compare this to alpinism and mountaineering: Once all the big peaks had been climbed ("the age of heroes") the sport bifurcated into A) a group of amateurs getting access to places they rightfully never belonged, and B) a group of hardcore climbers who, still feeling the
Mathematician Terence Tao: "we're seeing the end of the romantic era of mathematics, the age of heroes. we're moving into an industrial era where math becomes large-scale, done in big teams like the other sciences" We're entering, rather unwillingly, a new era where exciting

you'll know more about gpu execution and memory management than 96.31% of people if you fully understand the Programming Model chapter of NVIDIA's CUDA Programming Guide it covers thread blocks, warps, branch divergence, SIMT and tile programming, shared memory, block clusters, and data placement across cpus and gpus. this is only the eleventh resource in the ai performance engineering repo btw. follow and save to keep up with the series. links in thread 🧵
we launched the most comprehensive ai performance engineering repo in the world now we're posting every single resource follow and save to keep up with the series. links in thread 🧵 part 11: CUDA Programming Model optimizing matrix multiplication and reductions in training

We've figured out how to *pretrain transformers* with zeroth-order optimization and no backprop. Many of the core assumptions in optimization research are completely wrong. (paper out soon)
We are excited to announce that World Labs is joining @AMD. The research and technical breakthroughs we have achieved since our founding in 2024 have given us a clear vision for AI’s potential to solve problems in the spatial and physical world. Accelerating the future of spatial and physical intelligence requires scaling our efforts, scaling our reach, and getting closer to the hardware.
The PC is about to become a lot more personal. Today, I’m excited to announce a partnership between @AMD and @perplexity_ai to bring Perplexity Portable Computer to AMD Ryzen AI Halo. This is more than running AI locally. We’re creating a new kind of agentic PC that can understand your work, reason through problems, and take action on your behalf, right on the device where your work happens. With one click, users can bring powerful AI models and agents to their PC, work with local files and applications, and run recurring workflows on device. When a task needs more advanced research or reasoning, Portable can tap into the cloud with permission. Your models. Your agents. Your data. Your stack. For decades, the PC has been a tool for getting things done. Personal AI changes that. The PC can now become a true partner in the work, helping turn information into insight and ideas into action. Big thank you to @AravSrinivas and the entire Perplexity team for making this possible. The PC transformed how we work and create. Now we’re creating the platform for the era of Personal AI. And this is just the beginning.
We @AMD just reached $1T market cap!! Much more to come & to build :)
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution
Your job as a VC is to understand all 165 pages of this paper in order to know where to allocate capital next.
I wrote GPU kernels for GPT2 124M inference engine from scratch in ~1500 lines of CUDA. Here I explain it simply.
I built a GPT2 124M inference engine from scratch in ~1000 lines of C++. Here I explain it simply.
we didn't know how to design a chip a couple months ago so we reinvented Groq's LPU to run inference on @karpathy 's MicroGPT! here's a breakdown of what we learned:
Day 1 of Hot Chips was incredible - 6 talks on memory and somehow they all came back to the same question: what are you willing to give up for more bandwidth? A few takeaways on HBM/HBF, advanced packaging, and 3D DRAM 🧵
