A slow-moving org can nearly always be traced back to confusion around company goals. It’s why @kellan always starts conversations with leaders who are eager to improve team efficiency by asking them about their communication style.

Please contact me on literally any platform other than this one. I’m almost never here anymore, I can’t even login via the website due to 2FA breakage. But excitement to work with some of you great people brought me back for a moment.

And as part of the new gig I’m going to my first giant trade show in … forever? Next month I’ll be in Vegas at NAB. If you there please say hi, I’d love to see you. Maybe you can teach me something about this industry I’ve joined. Official blog post: blog.frame.io/2023/03/21/vis…

Oh hey! I’m doing a new thing and I’ve been so busy I haven’t posted about it. I’ve joined Adobe, leading engineering for their Frame.io product and building out a platform for creative collaboration.

I find comfort in that view being soundly repudiated as Twitter stumbles from dysfunction to dysfunction, the site barely working, braindead and poorly handled announcements like today's API shutdown, etc.

There was an unspoken fear among some tech leaders, certainly I had it, that the bar for leadership Twitter had been set so low at Twitter that even Musk could clear it. And that this would then be taken as evidence that the assholes had been right all along.

I do have some lovely code for screenscraping Twitter while jumping between spot instances that I wrote when I was build the oldtweets search engine (before there were downloadable archives). I wonder where I put that?

Friends, if you have not exported your archive, the time is now, it seems unlikely that feature will keep working

Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead 🧵

@stormsweeper I saw that and yeah it might have made sense to acknowledge it, the point being Stripe is arguably the best of us from this era and has found the road harder, not that they’ll never get there

@theapod I'd assert that this is even what bad managers do, they're just doing it badly.

"good management is critical to how organizations can effectively scale: that's what managers do, provide the critical resources that allow larger and larger groups of people to effectively collaborate" (shared in case it gets cut from the blog post)

@unRob Last minute addition that I could have explained better. Global inequality creates a high incentive for people to hack something that one might assume is not worth bothering with.
