@valigo Multithreading. It's been that way for about a year in playbit now and it works great for us. Since our "guest apps" are wasm, the wasm vm and most of the "meat" of our runtime runs on its own thread and that's that.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like it’s practically implemented as a GitHub runner I’d like to try something similar for Playbit, but struggling a bit to figure out how to do it without there being high complexity (like a bunch of separate scripts coordinating or agents getting it right only most of the time) Currently we use a typical PR workflow for agents, which is slow: a massive amount of tests are run 3x over (ci.sh locally by agent before putting up a pr), then ci again on the branch pr, then again when landed on main. What _is_ nice with PRs is that for complex tasks that span a few days, agents tend to create several stacked PRs (that “land” onto another PR when merged, not main) so I can review chunks of work earlier rather than having to wait a day or two

Practically same on macOS; AppKit owns main thread and does wild things like longjmp across callbacks so if you want control of the runloop (for example to do up or timers without using AppKit functions) you might see second-long pauses, even with custom runloop sources that interrupt the main runloop. We’ve pulled our hair on this in the past with Playbit

IMHO the most annoying this is how hard it is to distribute your app to users. First off you have to pay Apple for a dev account. There’s no way today to distribute non-notarized apps to regular users. Second, you either have to go through the long journey of pain and suffering to publish on the App Store or have your app appear as a second-class citizen; “scary app! Sure you want to open this?” says macOS.

Nice! Is this bouncing up and down intentional or a bug? Somehow I find it chaotic that the timeline is stationary on a touch device; I’d expect the timeline to move instead, like it kind of does in your video. Another potential bug: once you enter day granularity and move quicker again, it doesn’t go back to a coarser granularity

I bought a refurbished Mac mini M4 Pro off of eBay, stuck it in my basement and now our CI is faster _and_ we can do perf tracking (for which you need controlled hardware.) It all cost less than a month’s worth of GitHub CI $$$ ╰(*´︶`*)╯

@eriklangille @zeeg It’s very impressive what they’ve accomplished! 1.7t is “family saloon” weight, though. Impressive but not a light car I’d say. My GT3 is just over 1.3t and that is on the limit of being a “big heavy car” (for enthusiastic fun driving)
