As a longtime @neondatabase user, there is one feature that I have always wanted. Well...
This is the launch of the year for me. The best UX on the web have always been realtime (Notion, Linear, Google Docs) but realtime has never made it into the mainstream. Today, we're launching Neon Realtime - built by the team behind ElectricSQL. With a single toggle in the Console, CLI, or MCP, you can enable realtime for your Neon Postgres database. It works with Server-Side Rendering (Next.js, TanStack Start), Drizzle ORM, TanStack DB, and, of course, Postgres. Why am I so excited for this? Agents, of course. The web has never been more mutliplayer than today. If you expose an MCP server or run your custom agents in the background making changes on your data, your apps and dashboard should show the agent changes in real time. This was never easy to build without significantly altering your tech stack. Adding realtime to your Neon Postgres-based apps is now straightforward, without any massive code migrations. Keep using Postgres. Keep using Drizzle. Keep using SSR. And with TanStack DB, you won't even need any Neon-specific SDKs (just a tiny adapter). So stoked for this! ⚡️⚡️
