Indian Mining has ARRIVED
A big uncomfortable takeaway from the Sept trade data is that India's software & services exports have started slowing, probably due to A.I.! Sept services surplus was down 10% yoy and April-Sept services surplus was up only 4%. Our goods exports are doing fabulously (up 23% in Sept), so goods trade deficit is declining -down 8.5% yoy in Sept. But it's still a deficit of $30bn for Sept & $177.6 bn for Apr-Sept. That deficit needs to be filled. Slowing services exports, probably due to A.I. is worrying. @FinMinIndia@RBI@CafeEconomics
The AI Trade Cracked Abroad, and India Became a Place to Hide
Global investors are pulling money out of AI and chip stocks in the US, South Korea and Taiwan, with Korea market falling 8% in a single day. Some money is moving into bonds and India, helping the Nifty record its best day in four months
But the bigger picture is still mixed. Oil remains above $100, inflation is rising, the rupee is weak, foreign investors are still selling, and smaller Indian stocks continue to struggle. Meanwhile, exports, credit growth and tax collections suggest India economy is still active.
The takeaway is India is benefiting from a shift in global money flows, but this is not yet a broad market recovery. Economic activity remains strong, while inflation and global risks continue to put pressure on businesses & Funding

Watchlist is now Updated :)
A watchlist is much more than a list of stocks. It helps you understand where the market is going and where opportunities might emerge.
More importantly, a good watchlist becomes extremely useful during market corrections. When the market crashes, you don't have to start researching companies from zero. You already know which businesses are good, what valuations you are comfortable with, and what developments you need to monitor

Every memory chip today uses cells that take up 6F² of space on silicon wafer
CXMT, Chinese memory maker, says it can shrink that to 4F² that is 33% smaller, so same wafer produces roughly 50% more memory chips. Right now, SK Hynix earns 79% gross margin because only three companies make this memory and supply is tight
China already makes 10% of world DRAM. Goldman estimates CXMT will reach half of SK Hynix output by 2028. If true, margin advantage of Korean memory makers starts eroding from cost side
CXMT gave launch date but no yield numbers, no speed ratings, no volume target. We do not know how many working chips come off each wafer or how fast they run. Company cannot buy EUV machines because of US sanctions and makes chips on equipment from previous generation.
Big cloud companies take 12 to 18 months to test and approve new memory suppliers before buying at volume. Outside China, CXMT chips will not enter servers until 2028. This is regular DDR5, not HBM memory used next to AI chips
SK Hynix stock fell 10% and Samsung fell 7.4% on single day after CXMT’s 4F² announcement. South Korea stock index dropped to near its 200 day support level. Foreign funds sold $1.2B worth of Korean memory stocks in that session. This year, foreigners have pulled out $131B from Korea.
Samsung and SK Hynix spent $40B on combined share buyback and it did not stop selling. When two memory chip companies make up so much of your stock market, any threat to their profit margins moves everything at once.
Korean workers in their 20s and 30s could not afford Seoul apartments so they turned KOSPI into their housing trade (FOMO Case Study)
They borrowed on margin at 3x, poured savings into 2x semiconductor ETFs, and treated short term trading tools as long term bets. When prices
When foreign companies buy rare earths from China, they fill out government forms listing who they sell to, what they make, and how products look
China collects all this information from every buyer worldwide over years. So Beijing has detailed map showing which small company supplies which big company in chip industry. Sindlhauser is tiny German firm that makes special coatings for ASML, company that builds machines needed for advanced computer chips.
China used its collected data to find and target this firm when it wanted to pressure Europe
EU sanctioned Chinese companies for helping Russia. China hit back by sanctioning 14 European firms in July 2026. One was Sindlhauser, small German company that needs Chinese rare earths to make products.
Without those materials, Sindlhauser will shut down within months. Now EU is offering to remove sanctions on one Chinese company if China removes sanctions from Sindlhauser. Survival of one small firm is forcing Europe to give up pressure on Russia.
Beijing picked target carefully, knowing how much damage one listing could cause
So China knows which German company supplies parts to which chipmaker, but Germany does not. When Sindlhauser was sanctioned in July 2026, Berlin was surprised this firm was connected to ASML. China had mapped that connection through its own paperwork years ago.
Officials now worry delisting will make European firms stop searching for non Chinese suppliers
In India, when you visit doctor, doctor writes specific brand name on prescription, not chemical name. So if doctor writes Minipress for years, patients keep buying Minipress even though same chemical exists cheaper
ChrysCapital bought majority of Novartis India for ₹1,446 Cr. then company spent ₹1,250 Cr buying Minipress name from Pfizer. No factory came with it, no machines, no supply. Just brand name on paper.
In Indian medicine market, brand name doctor keeps writing on prescription is where all money sits
Novartis India bought Minipress brand name for ₹1,250 Cr but here is catch. Pfizer, company that made Minipress pills, stopped production on same day deal was signed. So Minipress pills on pharmacy shelves now are old Pfizer stock.
When those run out, Novartis India has no factory making new ones. Company needs to find new manufacturers, get government approvals, pass quality tests, and restock thousands of shops that takes 6 to 12 months. Meanwhile, doctors might start writing other brands of same medicine instead
Minipress earns ₹228 Cr per year and grows at 6.3%, slower than 9% average for blood pressure drugs in India. Novartis India paid ₹1,250 Cr for this brand, about 5.5 times yearly revenue.
After deal, Novartis India stock jumped 20% to record high while Pfizer India stock dropped to 52 week low. Stock market is not rewarding how fast this drug grows. It is rewarding how sticky doctor prescriptions are.
When doctor has written same brand for 10 years, switching feels risky to both doctor and patient.
This is why I have said time and again that the defence sector is not as simple as it looks. There are 300+ suppliers, but some get preferential treatment, while others struggle to win contracts even after going through the bidding process
In some cases, orders are awarded without competitive bidding, often justified by the government as an urgent requirement. Sometimes, the government even prefers foreign suppliers over domestic players. So there is a lot happening between the lines that investors need to understand.
Even a capable drone manufacturer may have to take loans to expand its product portfolio and compete for new opportunities that tells you how difficult this business can be.
Whenever you study a defence company, don't just look at its technology or order book. Look at who its clients are, what partnerships it has, how strong its relationships are, and how diversified its customer base is. Customer diversification is extremely important because depending too much on government orders can create serious problems
Another important thing is that defence orders don't come regularly or predictably. A company might receive a huge order one year and very little the next. This makes the sector highly lumpy, and even a good business can face periods of weak revenue and cash flow.
The bigger point is that government announcements and actual execution are two very different things. The government often promises a lot, but delivery can be slow and unpredictable. So don't get carried away by defence themes, big announcements, or impressive order pipelines.
Understand how the company actually wins orders, converts them into revenue, manages its working capital, and survives between contracts. That is where the real quality of a defence business becomes visible.

AI equity trade sucked away rest of the world Liquidity and led to rising dollar as rest of the world currencies and assets were sold to buy into AI trade.
AI companies massive bond borrowing also contributed to rising U.S. bond yields. On a duration-adjusted basis, it is closer to about 12% of annual Treasury supply.
If AI trade were to reverse then expect
1. Falling US dollar
2. Falling U.S. bond yields
3. Rising non AI related assets.
