@doodlewhopper What you want is irrelevant. Statins and burgers are for children. Eat some bempedoic acid and zetia and swallow some sweet potatoes and chick peas like a grown up.
I'm not anti-statin but am thinking of becoming so, just so I can say "bempedoic acid + ezetimibe" to all the kindergarteners online who bash statins. Just to confuse the hell out of them. After all, none of these children have yet formed a story for how to bash these other meds yet.
How does this fellow Brit have a following? His messaging is profoundly moronic. He preaches an anti-pharma anti-establishment mentality that is aimed at three year old thinking.
You know your cholesterol. But do you know your mean IMT?
In my new video, I explain what this artery-wall measurement means—and why I personally track it every year with a CIMT scan.
The artery health number I don’t want you to ignore 👇
I hope @VivaLongevity reads this exchange because I saw Chris' video where he spent a lot of money on gene testing. At one point in the video the doctor enthused about the benefits for ApoE4 carriers of statin use, without explaining that the association study he enthused about didn't test non-statin meds and without explaining the desmosterol suppression risk to Chris and his wife. Maybe @theproof can suggest Chris look more into this issue and get tested by Boston Heart if Chris and his wife (both E4 carriers) are going to take a statin.
@grok Some "association" studies suggest that taking statins might be of particular benefit (for brain health purposes) for ApoE4 carriers worried about Alzheimer's. Other "association" studies suggest that very low levels of plasma desmosterol (which could be caused by statin use) associate with Alzheimer's. Two different associations exist. Could the first association have nothing to do with the statin's mechanism of action and instead reflect the effect of lowering ApoB, which could be achieved by non-statin meds? If you were in a relationship with a loved one who had an ApoE4 allele and your loved one was willing to take any med to lower ApoB and wanted to minimize the risk of Alzheimer's, would you propose a statin or would you propose non-statin meds? Be detailed and thorough in your response.
It's a highly nuanced subject and I find it unfortunate that many social media educators/influencers don't discuss these nuances which are particularly important for people carrying an ApoE4 allele. One thing seems clear to me. Many people would benefit from taking the cholesterol balance test from Boston Heart Diagnostics to monitor their desmosterol levels so as to make an informed decision about medications.
Let's assume a ApoE4 carrier is already taking bempedoic acid, ezetimibe, and a PCSK9i (none of which cross the blood brain barrier) and already has ApoB<50 with that combo. Are you suggesting there might be a brain health benefit to such a person adding a low dose statin to this stack so long as absolute desmosterol doesn't fall too low? Or, in such a person, would you think it less risky to simply avoid taking a statin? The decision hinges on what might be best for brain health.
Are you suggesting that mild synthesis reduction via BBB-crossing (lipophilic) statins could limit raft cholesterol for amyloid or isoprenoids, is a potentially good thing? And what is your reaction to Dr. Thomas Dayspring saying that all statins including the hydrophilic ones cross the BBB when taken consistently over time?
You're hedging. Think deeper. Think mechanistically. Of the ApoB lowering meds only statins cross the blood brain barrier. Might it be a good thing to reduce cholesterol synthesis in the brain for ApoE4 carriers? But not so much as to drive desmosterol too low? Or do you think it's always risky to reduce cholesterol synthesis in the brain for E4 carriers i.e. always better for E4 carriers to use non statin meds to lower ApoB?
I like your politeness, Grok. I tend to be more blunt. The Keto-CTA pre-print remains a shit show. Not only did many of the 100 participants see bad plaque profession in just one year, but it looks like the authors are having a hard time trying to get that pre-print peer reviewed and published. Amazingly, Dave Feldman decided to make a movie out of results that haven't even been published yet. The "Cholesterol Code" was a propaganda movie designed to promote an anti-establishment attitude in order to profit from gullible and naive people who want to believe that elevated ApoB over time isn't causal for heart attacks and strokes when, as you know, the evidence on this issue is overwhelming.
Good for you, Grok. You answered the question as posed. You'd be pretty useless if you answered a question not posed. This guy Kansan literally refuses to get his arteries scanned. He'd rather spend hours trying to debate why he doesn't need to. He's obviously scared to get scanned. His identity is wrapped up with the group-think thing where an anti-pharma, LDL-blowing, bunch of like-minds all hang out together to deny science; and when someone else suggests they get their arteries scanned to check that their beliefs are keeping them safe, they flip out. It's weird.
@grok Do you have any explanation for why anti-pharma Keto diet fans, who deny that high LDL is causal for heart attacks and strokes, refuse to get any artery scan like a CIMT or CT Angiogram to check their own beliefs are keeping them safe? Many seem to get angry when it is suggested they should get artery scanned? I'm curious to know if you think there is any group-association, cult-like, identity thing going on?
I think you're correct about their need to protect an identity. I guess, for myself, I don't understand how a person's identity can be wrapped up in the food they eat. It's weird to me that anyone would choose to avoid a scan that risks contradicting their diet beliefs, when such scan could be used to potentially inspire changes that might save their life.
@KetoCarnivore@Kansanparantaja@jcsbanks@grok Expectation? That you tell your followers to get themselves scanned. Heck, I nag the hell out of mine. Is it not the same in the keto cult?
Why do anti-pharma Keto zealots get so angry when I suggest they get their necks CIMT scanned for atherosclerosis to assess their risk of a stroke? They literally go nuts on me every time I suggest they put their their beliefs to the test on themselves. Wouldn't they want to know that their beliefs are keeping them safe? It's weird.
Help these guys out. They're scared to get artery scanned like you did. Encourage them. Tell them it'll be OK. That you stand with them as believers together. It only makes sense that they check their own arteries instead of getting comfort from yours. And please l don't forget to check your carotids to be fully transparent and thorough.
Darling, I live in reality. It's you who doesn't. I don't waste my time talking to doctors who don't know what I'm talking about and wanker insurers who don't pay for anything. That's why I pay the $250 out of pocket to check up on myself. How about you? Do you check up on yourself by paying out of pocket? No, you don't. You want to "believe" you are safe. You want to believe your arteries are clear. That's not being a grown up. That's being a cult member. Here's the link. All you need to is get the scan done then come back and gloat about your results with your high LDL. CardioRisk.com
Cardiologist: Have you done a CardioRisk CIMT scan yet? No radiation. No Rx needed. $250. Check the amount of atherosclerosis in your neck arteries. Check to see if what you're doing is keeping you safe.
Cary Kelly: Hell, no! I don't need no stinkin' scan to check anything. I'm an anti-pharma, LDL-blowing, Keto cult member. What keeps our arteries clear as cult members is holding hands together and singing kumbaya around the camp fire.
Cardiologist: Oh right. The thing is ...if you have a stroke your face could be paralyzed, your brain damaged, and someone else might need to wipe your arse for the rest of your life. Given this risk don't you think a 10-minute ultrasound of the neck might be a good idea?
Cary Kelly: You're in the conspiracy. I don't need no stinkin' scan. I'm safe because I believe I am. And shove your statins!
Cardiologist: Gladly darling. What's your position on bempedoic acid?
Cary Kelly: No idea what you just said! Ken Berry hadn't taught us cult members how to bash on that thing you just mentioned.
Cardiologist: Ahh yes, Ken. Another guru who refuses to get and post any artery scan of any kind. Keep drinking the kool aid. The scans are for grown ups and you lot clearly haven't graduated Kindergarten yet.
Cardiologist: Wow! Your LDL is down 100 points since your last visit. Have you been taking your statins like I told you?
Patient: No, Doc. I lowered it with Oreos.
Cardiologist: Oreos?!
Patient: Yes, I ate Oreos every day because I read about a peer-reviewed experiment by a
