That's a lot of open source to get through, so let's dive in.
🤖 cf CLI Open Beta 🤖
During April's Developer Week, Cloudflare announced cf CLI: a CLI for the entirety of Cloudflare, built for both humans and agents to get what they needed done, across the Cloudflare platform.
In April, it was early stages, with a limited list of operations. However, it's not so limited anymore. There's now over 3,000 operations available in cf CLI.
The tool is built with agents and humans in mind. For example, the output from cf is entirely JSON. For agents, it's condensed to reduce context usage, and for humans it's pretty printed.
With over 3,000 operations, how do you find the command you need? By using cf cli search, allowing you or your agent to use natural language to find the relevant commands.
A little nugget exists in the blog too around defining configuration for your Workers: cloudflare.config.ts.
This is a replacement for Wrangler config, allowing you to define your Worker's config directly in TypeScript, with full type checking - you can switch with cf migrate. This is all powered by Vite, with esbuild and Wrangler config still fully supported.
Want to take the new CLI for a spin? Get started today with by running npm i -g cf
🔥 Forge: Pipelines for generating SDKs, CLIs & docs 🔥
In a world where agents are doing an increasing amount of work across the workplace, each and every company needs SDKs, CLIs and docs.
Generating all of those is not as trivial as it sounds though. There's a number of languages to support, previews of changes before they ship and conflicts to resolve between teams.
Forge solves all of this, and is already being used to generate cf CLI. In the near future, it will produce the SDKs for Cloudflare's APIs and docs too.
The flow is as follows:
1. Forge runs in CI on every change, across every language you support
2. It generates previews for all those languages, including CLI, SDK and docs
3. Once reviewed + approved, it publishes everything for you
Forge's transformers can build anything, including Cap'n Web, TanStack Queries, Zod schemas and more.
Best of all, Forge is designed in a pluggable way. At Cloudflare, we're primarily using OpenAPI, so that's what it supports today. However, it's designed to allow AsyncAPI, GraphQL, Cap’n Proto, Protobuf, or other input formats in the future.
And yes, because there's an open source focus today, this is available to everyone, for free.
🦀 New Emscripten target for Rust Workers 🦀
Since its release, Rust has quickly become one of the most loved programming languages in the world. With more and more code being written by agents, Rust's popularity is only increasing due to its performance combined with safety.
Today, Cloudflare is announcing a preview to better support native Rust code and even Tokio-based applications.
The coolest thing about this post? To demonstrate the improve capabilities, it's now possible to run a Rust-native Minecraft server (Pumpkin) inside of a Durable Object 🤯
So, what is new? At a high level:
- Rust Workers can now use the wasm32-unknown-emscripten target with wasm-bindgen
- Tokio applications can run in Workers, using JSPI
- You can bridge sockets (TCP, UDP, Unix sockets, and epoll) to Workers APIs
- Lots of libraries that didn't work before, now do
This is all available for you to try down, with links below!
✍️ Vinext & EmDash 1.0 ✍️
It wouldn't be an open source celebration without Vinext & EmDash.
For anyone not familiar, Vinext is a drop-in replacement for Next.js written in Vite, and EmDash is Cloudflare's take on a successor to WordPress.
Today, both are graduating to their V1 releases, effectively making them stable for production use. Here's the highlights of what V1 means for each.
Vinext:
- Test compatibility of 99% vs Next.js
- Support for Pages Router, RSC, Server Actions and more
- Rendering options for pages, including ISR
- Shared cache across routers, including support for Workers Cache
- Next.js-compatible tracing & ecosystem support
EmDash:
- Stable and production ready, with many sites migrating from WordPress
- API, CLI, and built-in MCP support for developer and agent workflows
- Fully sandboxed plugins backed by capabilities
- A decentralized plugin registry for everyone to use
- EmDash Build (alpha), an open source AI site builder that anyone can use to allow customers to build their own sites on EmDash
With both graduating to V1, there's never been a better time to migrate your Next.js & WordPress sites over, and of course to host them on Cloudflare!
🪁 KiteSurf Update 🪁
Earlier in the year, Cloudflare announced KiteSurf, an experimental browser for agents that runs entirely on Cloudflare.
As part of that announcement, Cloudflare stated it planned to release KiteSurf as an open source offering. While today is not that day, it's getting closer to being ready for open sourcing.
Here's what's been added to KiteSurf since its announcement:
- KiteSurf now supports WebMCP, which is far more reliable than "clicking" through websites
- Over 500k more subtests now pass the Web Platform Tests (a measure of compatibility for browsers)
- A bunch of efficiency improvements, particularly around JS and the DOM
- Kitesurf now works with CDP, Playwright, Puppeteer, and MCP via Browser Run (+ Quick Actions too!)
- Terminal support via Homebrew, giving your agent a browser in the terminal
You can also try out Kitesurf via its playground site, linked below - stay tuned for future updates around open sourcing KiteSurf!
⚡️ Four months of VoidZero at Cloudflare ⚡️
VoidZero, which develops Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+, joined Cloudflare 4 months ago with the commitment that it will remain supporting open source work.
Today, there's an update on all the open source work that VoidZero has conducted since joining Cloudflare:
- Shipped 80 releases and closed over 1,200 issues
- Everything is faster: Oxc is 10x faster than Babel, Vitest 5 is 50% faster than its predecessor, tsgolint is 18x faster than ESLint and Oxfmt's Rust formatters are 7x faster than Prettier
- Vite+ V1 is here, unifying all the tools under a single toolchain
- Full Bundle Mode works continues, with Cloudflare's dashboard using it internally but it's not ready for release just yet
There's more to come, and Cloudflare has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting VoidZero as an open source offering long term.
📢 Pitch your startup at CF Connect for $500k credits 📢
It's not every day you get the chance to compete for $500k in Cloudflare credits. But in October, at Cloudflare Connect, 5 startups will compete for exactly that.
Each startup will get to pitch to Matthew Prince (CEO & co-founder), Michelle Zatlyn (President & co-founder), Dane Knecht (CTO) and of course a live audience.
Each startup will get 5 minutes, and to be eligible must have raised less than $10m so far.
Applications are open now and close this Friday!
📈 Explore RUM with BEACON 📈
Last, but not least, we have BEACON: an anonymized dataset of 10,000 large websites, covering billions of visits.
It's available in Google BigQuery, and expands the RUM Archive’s dataset by roughly 100-fold.
You get full distributions of Core Web Vitals LCP, CLS, and INP, plus breakdowns by browser, device, country, and industry.
Using the data, you can find some interesting findings. For example, WebKit is at least 10% slower than Blink on LCP and INP in 46 countries where it has significant traffic. In Cambodia, WebKit’s LCP is 50% worse.
It also helps to uncover why things are slow, such as LCP problems often coming from discovering the main content or unblocking its rendering.
The data is publicly available today in Google BigQuery, with Cloudflare Radar including this data in its new performance section soon.
Phew, that's it for today! It's only day 1, but it's already shaping up to be the best Birthday Week yet - make sure you keep up to date with the rest of the week, there's a bunch of stuff you REALLY don't want to miss!
I’m not supposed to have favorite Birthday Week announcements, just like one shouldn’t have favorite children, but I will say this one is so insanely cool: blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-cf-…
I wanted to understand how Jev works and how it differs from using an LLM as a classifier, so I built a simple side-by-side demo, everything the same, the only variable I swap is the classifier:
Try the comparison: jev.oskarcode.com
Code: github.com/oskarcode/doca…
I’ve been Jev-ing around to explore what TypeSafe AI can unlock.
So I built an iPhone Shortcut connected to a secure browser-based AI agent.
The experience is simple:
Select text/url → tap the Shortcut → learn, see the details here.

Another banger feature that makes your agents' lives easier, Cloudflare is truly the cloud designed for the agentic era
We're excited to announce that today Python Workers are generally available (GA).
It means Python is now a first-class, fully supported language on the Cloudflare Developer Platform. Read everything about it: cfl.re/4he07Gh
what if we could simulate jev with an oss language model and token probabilities?
we break down how jev works and shipped a demo running with DiffusionGemma on @CloudflareDev workers ai: kev.workers-ai-mle.workers.dev
Flue 2.0.7 is out! This is a huge patch release.
Fixes include: context-overflow responses now survive compaction, and the `useFlueAgent` React hook now keeps callbacks stable across updates.
Plus fixes across the SDK, Vite, Workers AI, and more.
Changelog: github.com/withastro/flue…@flueai
Omg is it Christmas already?
Python Workers now support WSGI and ASGI web frameworks!
Wrap a Django, Flask, FastAPI, or Starlette app with wsgi.entrypoint or asgi.entrypoint from the workers module and deploy it to Workers!!
Problems we are solving for customers of @Cloudflare AI Search today:
1. Get free embedding and reranking with the defaults, part of our pricing preview
2. Receive an endpoint for searching across multiple data sources
3. Serve search from your domain and restrict with Access (e.g. search.example.com/mcp)
4. Index a website without a sitemap + index subdomains
Here's an example of what you can build:
We made getting started with Cloudflare OS ridiculously easy.
One-click deploy to your own Cloudflare account:
→ We spin up the Workers, KV namespaces, R2 bucket + public URL for you (takes ~1 minute)
Or you can fork the open-source code and make it fully your own. Your own agent workspace, ready to go.
Try it → os.cloudflare.app/deploy

It’s been incredible to see how different pockets of the company have been evolving these past few months over the many iterations of this. really proud of the team, and still so much to do!

Today we are releasing Cloudflare OS, a chatbot with connectors, just like every other tech company is doing.
Except actually, it's different. This is a remake of Sandstorm[.]io, my startup from 10 years ago, except this time built on Cloudflare Workers (the platform I've spent the last 9 years building) and deeply leveraging AI. This is more or less the culmination of my secret 10-year master plan.
This is a full-on personal app vibe coding platform, in which the sandbox is so secure that you can pretty much go wild -- the AI cannot introduce a significant security bug. We believe a company's security team can feel comfortable giving non-technical users permission to vibe code and then sleep soundly at night.
How is that possible? It's the Sandstorm security model, revisited. A "Gadget" is the same thing as a Sandstorm "Grain": a fine-grained app instance. For example, if you have a document editor app, each document runs as a separate instance of the app, in a separate sandbox (one "Gadget").
This means two things, both of which I think are Big Deals:
1. The platform can manage all access control, by controlling who can access the Gadget at all. There is no way the Gadget can accidentally leak itself to an attacker -- even an attacker who has access to other Gadgets based on the same app.
2. Since everyone is running their own copy of the code, everyone can freely *modify* their copy of the code.
Think about #2 a bit more.
What if, when you wanted a new feature in the software you are using, you could just prompt your agent to add it?
This doesn't work in the cloud Software-as-a-Service model, because you are not running your own copy of the app.
Sandstorm tried to change that 10 years ago, but the world wasn't ready, because not enough people had the skills or patience to actually modify their software. AI has changed that. Now you just ask the agent -- the same agent that you are using to help you interact with the Gadget can also modify the code of the Gadget.
And it is so fun.
