I do not like .env files. You should not have to manually populate arbitrary values in some file to get a project to run. Especially if they're secrets! No secrets on disk please.
@CraigBarrDev I agree with the basic points here. Ideally your dev setup doesn't require network connectivity or if it does (say you're building an AI product) it at least has some way to gracefully degrade.

@codingXdynasty In all seriousness, yes, of course. Ideally you have no prod creds on your machine. But then, when new engineers are onboarding they can’t run anything until they get a copy of the dotenv. Then, if someone ships a new one, everyone has to update or dev fails to run.
